It’s library day, and Yasmin is the helper! She loves shelving books, but suddenly, Yasmin discovers that her own special book is missing. How will she find it among all the other books?

She showed Yasmin the alphabet signs on the shelves. “As long as you know your ABCs you’ll be fine.”
– Yasmin the Librarian, Saadia Faruqi

Reading Yasmin the Librarian took me back to my school days when I used to look forward to the Library period just to talk to the librarian and discuss about books with her.

In Yasmin the Librarian, Yasmin looks forward to the library class to not only show the librarian her special book, but also to help her shelve the books back and to assist the readers with their requests. During her class, as she goes about being the library helper, she loses her special book given to her by her baba (father). What happens following that is the main story which ends with the librarian saying that Yasmin is a a true librarian.

What an honor to hear that from a librarian! What do you think she would have said/done? Drop them in the comments below!

Everyone seems to have an idea for the science fair except for Yasmin! After some failed experiments, Yasmin’s snack break with Nani inspires an idea. Together they use kitchen science for sweet success!

Ms. Alex smiled. “Yes. Cooking is also science!”
– Yasmin the Scientist, Saadia Faruqi

Want to be a scientist? Look around, and everything has science in it! Yasmin learns of a science experiment by accident and is marveled by it. Ultimately, she turns this accident into an experiment presentation for the science fair.

What do you think she would have done? Any guesses? Drop them in the comments below!

As with Meet Yasmin! and Yasmin in Charge (books I had reviewed last year for MCBD2020), Yasmin the Librarian and Yasmin the Scientist both have facts about Pakistan, discussion points, and activities for the parent/teacher-child to go through. Once the stories are over, the book takes the reader to:
  1. Think About It, Talk About It, where questions are raised for the child to reflect on oneself and discuss with the parent/teacher.
  2. Then the reader gets to Learn Urdu with Yasmin where urdu words are introduced with pronunciation and meanings.
  3. Next in line is Pakistani Fun Facts where tidbits of the country’s information are provided.
  4. And lastly, a story-based activity for the child to engage in.
Thank you MCBD organizers and Capstone Publishing for giving me the opportunity to review these captivating books!

Readers, have you read these books? And if yes, what do you think about them? And if no, why haven’t you already? 😀
